They twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a reed in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: “Hail, King of the Jews! ”

For I have endured insults because of You, and shame has covered my face.

This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised, to one abhorred by people, to a servant of rulers: “Kings will see and stand up, and princes will bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel — and He has chosen you.”

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; He was despised, and we didn’t value Him.

You deceived me, Lord, and I was deceived. You seized me and prevailed. I am a laughingstock all the time; everyone ridicules me.

Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and crucified, and He will be resurrected on the third day.”

So he went right up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi! ” and kissed Him.

Above His head they put up the charge against Him in writing: THIS IS JESUSTHE KING OF THE JEWS.

They dressed Him in a purple robe, twisted together a crown of thorns, and put it on Him.

And they began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews! ”
