Bel crouches; Nebo cowers. Their idols are consigned to beasts and cattle. The images you carry are loaded, as a burden for the weary animal.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law — justice, mercy, and faith. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.

Therefore do whatever they tell you, and observe it. But don’t do what they do, because they don’t practice what they teach.

Then He said: “Woe also to you experts in the law! You load people with burdens that are hard to carry, yet you yourselves don’t touch these burdens with one of your fingers.

Now then, why are you testing God by putting a yoke on the disciples’ necks that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?

For it was the Holy Spirit’s decision — and ours — to put no greater burden on you than these necessary things:

For even the circumcised don’t keep the law themselves; however, they want you to be circumcised in order to boast about your flesh.

For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden,

I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who haven’t known the deep things of Satan — as they say — I do not put any other burden on you.
