What is this coming up from the wilderness like columns of smoke, scented with myrrh and frankincense from every fragrant powder of the merchant?

Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah — this One who is splendid in His apparel, rising up proudly in His great might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save.

When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.

And the crowds kept saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee! ”

Then the crowds who went ahead of Him and those who followed kept shouting: Hosanna to the Son of David! He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One! Hosanna in the highest heaven!

and said to Him: “Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Who is it who gave You this authority? ”

Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to think: “Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? ”

Those who were at the table with Him began to say among themselves, “Who is this man who even forgives sins? ”

“I beheaded John,” Herod said, “but who is this I hear such things about? ” And he wanted to see Him.

So the Jews replied to Him, “What sign of authority will You show us for doing these things? ”

“Who are You, Lord? ” he said. “I am Jesus, the One you are persecuting,” He replied.

The two of them traveled until they came to Bethlehem. When they entered Bethlehem, the whole town was excited about their arrival and the local women exclaimed, “Can this be Naomi? ”

Samuel did what the Lord directed and went to Bethlehem. When the elders of the town met him, they trembled and asked, “Do you come in peace? ”
