I gave My back to those who beat Me, and My cheeks to those who tore out My beard. I did not hide My face from scorn and spitting.

Just as many were appalled at You — His appearance was so disfigured that He did not look like a man, and His form did not resemble a human being —

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; He was despised, and we didn’t value Him.

Now, daughter who is under attack, you slash yourself in grief; a siege is set against us! They are striking the judge of Israel on the cheek with a rod.

Then they spit in His face and beat Him; others slapped Him

After tying Him up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate, the governor.

Then some began to spit on Him, to blindfold Him, and to beat Him, saying, “Prophesy! ” The temple police also took Him and slapped Him.

As soon as it was morning, the chief priests had a meeting with the elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin. After tying Jesus up, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate.

and after they flog Him, they will kill Him, and He will rise on the third day.”

Then their whole assembly rose up and brought Him before Pilate.

Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt, mocked Him, dressed Him in a brilliant robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

The people stood watching, and even the leaders kept scoffing: “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One! ”

When He had said these things, one of the temple police standing by slapped Jesus, saying, “Is this the way you answer the high priest? ”

Then they took Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters. It was early morning. They did not enter the headquarters themselves; otherwise they would be defiled and unable to eat the Passover.

They answered him, “If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

They said this so that Jesus’ words might be fulfilled signifying what kind of death He was going to die.

“I’m not a Jew, am I? ” Pilate replied. “Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me. What have You done? ”

Though He was delivered up according to God’s determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.
