So the Lord God asked the woman, “What is this you have done? ” And the woman said, “It was the serpent. He deceived me, and I ate.”

But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.’ ”

Then Elijah said to King Ahaziah, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron — is it because there is no God in Israel for you to inquire of His will? — you will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.’ ”

Therefore, this is what the Lord says: ‘You will not get up from your sickbed — you will certainly die.’ ” Then Elijah left.

They replied, “A man came to meet us and said, ‘Go back to the king who sent you and declare to him: This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you’re sending these men to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore, you will not get up from your sickbed — you will certainly die.’ ”

Elisha told him, “Go say to him, ‘You are sure to recover.’ But the Lord has shown me that he is sure to die.”

“So he said, ‘I will go and become a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ “Then He said, ‘You will entice him and also prevail. Go and do that.’

He says to himself, “God has forgotten; He hides His face and will never see.”

You are of your father the Devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of liars.

But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a complete and pure devotion to Christ.

I have done this so that we may not be taken advantage of by Satan. For we are not ignorant of his schemes.

When someone hears the words of this oath, he may consider himself exempt, thinking, ‘I will have peace even though I follow my own stubborn heart.’ This will lead to the destruction of the well-watered land as well as the dry land.

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.
