The coastland peoples spread out into their lands. These are Japheth’s sons by their clans, in their nations. Each group had its own language.

These are Ham’s sons, by their clans, according to their languages, in their own lands and their nations.

Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood.

And Javan’s sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

Ham’s sons: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

These three were Noah’s sons, and from them the whole earth was populated.

King Ahasuerus imposed a tax throughout the land even to the farthest shores.

May the kings of Tarshish and the coasts and islands bring tribute, the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.

On that day the Lord will extend His hand a second time to recover — from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coasts and islands of the west — the remnant of His people who survive.

Therefore, in the east honor the Lord! In the islands of the west honor the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered as a speck of dust in the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

The islands see and are afraid, the whole earth trembles. They approach and arrive.

Sing a new song to the Lord; sing His praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea with all that fills it, you islands with your inhabitants.

He will not grow weak or be discouraged until He has established justice on earth. The islands will wait for His instruction.”

Coastlands, listen to me; distant peoples, pay attention. The Lord called me before I was born. He named me while I was in my mother’s womb.

My righteousness is near, My salvation appears, and My arms will bring justice to the nations. The coastlands will put their hope in Me, and they will look to My strength.

So He will repay according to their deeds: fury to His enemies, retribution to His foes, and He will repay the coastlands.

Yes, the islands will wait for Me with the ships of Tarshish in the lead, to bring your children from far away, their silver and gold with them, for the honor of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you.

Cross over to Cyprus and take a look. Send someone to Kedar and consider carefully; see if there has ever been anything like this:

all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands across the sea;

This is what the Lord God says to Tyre: “Won’t the coasts and islands quake at the sound of your downfall, when the wounded groan and slaughter occurs within you?

Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your downfall; the islands in the sea are alarmed by your demise.”

Then he will turn his attention to the coasts and islands and capture many. But a commander will put an end to his taunting; instead, he will turn his taunts against him.

The Lord will be terrifying to them when He starves all the gods of the earth. Then all the distant coastlands of the nations will bow in worship to Him, each in its own place.

When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance and divided the human race, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the people of Israel.
