if I have gazed at the sun when it was shining or at the moon moving in splendor,

Look up and see: who created these? He brings out the starry host by number; He calls all of them by name. Because of His great power and strength, not one of them is missing.

I form light and create darkness, I make success and create disaster; I, Yahweh, do all these things.

This is what the Lord says: The One who gives the sun for light by day, the fixed order of moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea and makes its waves roar — Yahweh of Hosts is His name:

Sun and moon stand still in their lofty residence, at the flash of Your flying arrows, at the brightness of Your shining spear.

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the celestial powers will be shaken.

From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over the whole land.

There is a splendor of the sun, another of the moon, and another of the stars; for one star differs from another star in splendor.

When you look to the heavens and see the sun, moon, and stars — all the array of heaven — do not be led astray to bow down and worship them. The Lord your God has provided them for all people everywhere under heaven.

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
