When King David got to Bahurim, a man belonging to the family of the house of Saul was just coming out. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and he was yelling curses as he approached.

Finally, the king and all the people with him arrived exhausted, so they rested there.

“You must not blaspheme God or curse a leader among your people.

Like a flitting sparrow or a fluttering swallow, an undeserved curse goes nowhere.

Do not curse the king even in your thoughts, and do not curse a rich person even in your bedroom, for a bird of the sky may carry the message, and a winged creature may report the matter.

They will wander through the land, dejected and hungry. When they are famished, they will become enraged, and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God.

He said to David, “Am I a dog that you come against me with sticks? ” Then he cursed David by his gods.
