Moses continued, “The Lord will give you meat to eat this evening and more than enough bread in the morning, for He has heard the complaints that you are raising against Him. Who are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”

So I will choose their punishment, and I will bring on them what they dread because I called and no one answered; I spoke and they didn’t hear; they did what was evil in My sight and chose what I didn’t delight in.

At the end of seven years, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must send him out free from you. But your ancestors did not obey Me or pay any attention.

“The one who welcomes you welcomes Me, and the one who welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me.

Whoever listens to you listens to Me. Whoever rejects you rejects Me. And whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

“But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to rule over us! ’

But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

“I assure you: A slave is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him.

But Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; the Lord will rule over you.”

But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and afflictions. You said to Him, ‘You must set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and clans.”

Then Samuel said to all Israel, “I have carefully listened to everything you said to me and placed a king over you.

But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was coming against you, you said to me, ‘No, we must have a king rule over us’ — even though the Lord your God is your king.

“Listen to them,” the Lord told Samuel. “Appoint a king for them.” Then Samuel told the men of Israel, “Each of you, go back to your city.”

They are doing the same thing to you that they have done to Me, since the day I brought them out of Egypt until this day, abandoning Me and worshiping other gods.
