He told Samuel, “Go and lie down. If He calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

I will listen to what God will say; surely the Lord will declare peace to His people, His godly ones, and not let them go back to foolish ways.

His salvation is very near those who fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land.

“You speak to us, and we will listen,” they said to Moses, “but don’t let God speak to us, or we will die.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Who should I send? Who will go for Us? I said: Here I am. Send me.

He said, “Don’t be afraid, you who are treasured by God. Peace to you; be very strong! ” As he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”

“But get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

“Neither,” He replied. “I have now come as commander of the Lord’s army.” Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked Him, “What does my Lord want to say to His servant? ”

The Lord came, stood there, and called as before, “Samuel, Samuel! ” Samuel responded, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”

Once again, for the third time, the Lord called Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling the boy.
