When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Kena`an, he gave them their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred fifty years.

Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sichon the Amori, king of Cheshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

Yehoshua made war a long time with all those kings.

Sichon king of the Amori, who lived in Cheshbon, and ruled from `Aro`er, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and [the city that is in] the middle of the valley, and half Gil`ad, even to the river Yabbok, the border of the children of `Ammon;

and ruled in Mount Chermon, and in Salkhah, and in all Bashan, to the border of the Geshuri and the Ma`akhati, and half Gil`ad, the border of Sichon king of Cheshbon.

and all the cities of Sichon king of the Amori, who reigned in Cheshbon, to the border of the children of `Ammon;

Their border was from `Aro`er, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeva;

Cheshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Divon, and Bamot-Ba`al, and Beit-Ba`al-Me`on,

It happened after many days, when the LORD had given rest to Yisra'el from all their enemies round about, and Yehoshua was old and well stricken in years;

They vexed and oppressed the children of Yisra'el that year: eighteen years [oppressed they] all the children of Yisra'el that were beyond the Yarden in the land of the Amori, which is in Gil`ad.

The land had rest forty years. `Otni'el the son of Kenaz died.

So Mo'av was subdued that day under the hand of Yisra'el. The land had rest eighty years.

So let all your enemies perish, LORD, but let those who love him be as the sun when it rises forth in its strength. The land had rest forty years.

So Midyan was subdued before the children of Yisra'el, and they lifted up their heads no more. The land had rest forty years in the days of Gid`on.

Avimelekh was prince over Yisra'el three years.
