For thus has the LORD of Armies said, Hew you down trees, and cast up a mound against Yerushalayim: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.
Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Ashur, 'He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of the LORD is made a reproach to me, and a derision, all the day.
Behold, the mounds, they are come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Kasdim who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence; and what you have spoken has happened; and behold, you see it.
For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before my face,
For thus says the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Yehudah, which are broken down [to make a defense] against the mounds and against the sword;
It happened when Yerushalayim was taken, (in the ninth year of Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah, in the tenth month, came Nevukhadnetzar 1 king of Bavel and all his army against Yerushalayim, and besieged it;
and lay siege against it, and build forts against it, and cast up a mound against it; set camps also against it, and plant battering rams against it round about.
So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city: and the forces of the south shall not stand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any strength to stand.
