The carpenter stretches out a line; he marks it out with a pencil; he shapes it with planes, and he marks it out with the compasses, and shapes it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house.

Now Lavan had gone to shear his sheep: and Rachel stole the terafim that were her father's.

So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith. He who smoothes with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, *It is good;* and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter.

He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak, and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest: he plants a fir tree, and the rain nourishes it.

So I went in and saw; and see, every form of creeping things, and abominable animals, and all the idols of the house of Yisra'el, portrayed on the wall round about.

There stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Yisra'el; and in the midst of them stood Ya`azanyah the son of Shafan, every man with his censer in his hand; and the odor of the cloud of incense went up.

Then said he to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Yisra'el do in the dark, every man in his chambers of imagery? for they say, the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.

Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man.

and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.

Cursed be the man who makes an engraved or molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret. All the people shall answer and say, Amein.

There you shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

He said, you have taken away my gods which I made, and the Kohen, and are gone away, and what have I more? and how then say you to me, What ails you?
