*Though you, Yisra'el, play the prostitute, yet don't let Yehudah offend; and don't come to Gilgal, neither go up to Beit-Aven, nor swear, 'As the LORD lives.'
Hear you this, house of Ya`akov, who are called by the name of Yisra'el, and are come forth out of the waters of Yehudah; who swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Yisra'el, but not in truth, nor in righteousness
Therefore hear the word of the LORD, all Yehudah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Yehudah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord GOD lives.
As for you, house of Yisra'el, thus says the Lord GOD: Go you, serve everyone his idols, and hereafter also, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name shall you no more profane with your gifts, and with your idols.
The inhabitants of Shomron will be in terror for the calves of Beit-Aven; for its people will mourn over it, Along with its Kohanim who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
The high places also of Aven, the sin of Yisra'el, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, *Cover us!* and the hills, *Fall on us!*
Efrayim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Ashur, and oil is carried into Egypt.
My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.
*All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house! I will love them no more. All their princes are rebels.
but don't seek Beit-El, nor enter into Gilgal, and don't pass to Be'er-Sheva: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beit-El shall come to nothing.
*When a man's relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, 'Is there yet any with you?' And he says, 'No;' then he will say, 'Hush! Indeed we must not mention the name of the LORD.'
Those who swear by the sin of Shomron, and say, 'As your god, Dan, lives;' and, 'As the way of Be'er-Sheva lives;' they will fall, and never rise up again.*
The LORD said to Yehoshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, to this day.
Yehoshua sent men from Yericho to `Ai, which is beside Beit-Aven, on the east side of Beit-El, and spoke to them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. The men went up and spied out `Ai.
