They were stoned. They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

and set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, You did curse God and the king. Then carry him out, and stone him to death.
Eliyahu took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they two went over on dry ground.

and they fetched forth Uriyah out of Egypt, and brought him to Yehoiakim the king, who killed him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
It will happen in that day, that the prophets will each be ashamed of his vision, when he prophesies; neither will they wear a hairy mantle to deceive:
I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, 'It is my people;' and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'*
*Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!
But some Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Sha'ul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.
Which of the prophets didn't your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.
