When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the Kohanim in their clothing with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaf with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the order of David king of Yisra'el.

Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things. They will consider the loving kindnesses of the LORD.

'Consider, please, from this day and backward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, since the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it.

For before those days there was no wages for man, nor any wages for an animal; neither was there any shalom to him who went out or came in, because of the adversary. For I set all men everyone against his neighbor.

But now I will not be to the remnant of this people as in the former days,* says the LORD of Armies.

What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn't be judged.
