Midyanim who were merchants passed by, and they drew and lifted up Yosef out of the pit, and sold Yosef to the Yishme`elim for twenty pieces of silver. They brought Yosef into Egypt.
They sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and saw a caravan of Yishme`elim was coming from Gil`ad, with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
Yosef was brought down to Egypt. Potifar, an officer of Par`oh's, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hand of the Yishme`elim that had brought him down there.
When Yosef's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, *It may be that Yosef will hate us, and will fully pay us back for all of the evil which we did to him.*
The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Midyan and `Efah; all they from Sheva shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praises of the LORD.
Then that which was spoken through Yirmeyahu the prophet was fulfilled, saying, *They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him upon whom a price had been set, whom some of the children of Yisra'el priced,
Then the men of Yisra'el said to Gid`on, Rule you over us, both you, and your son, and your son's son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midyan.
Gid`on said to them, I would make a request of you, that you would give me every man the earrings of his spoil. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Yishme`elim.)
