Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpakhshad, and became the father of sons and daughters.
God blessed them. God said to them, *Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.*
This is the history of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old and became the father of Arpakhshad two years after the flood.
Arpakhshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelach.
Be fruitful and multiply. Bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply in it.*
Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants, our daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
