Nevukhadnetzar 1 the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits, and the breadth of it six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Bavel.

Woe to him who says to the wood, 'Awake!' or to the mute stone, 'Arise!' Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.


Shall a man make to himself gods, which yet are no gods?


Some pour out gold from the bag, and weigh silver in the balance. They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god. They fall down--yes, they worship.


They have set up kings, but not by me. They have made princes, and I didn't approve. Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols, that they may be cut off.


You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Sha'ul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands.

There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Ufaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skillful men.


You shall defile the overlaying of your engraved images of silver, and the plating of your molten images of gold. You shall cast them away as an unclean thing. You shall tell it, *Go away!*


The engraved images of their gods shall you burn with fire: you shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it to you, lest you be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.


Moshe returned to the LORD, and said, *Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.


You shall most certainly not make alongside of me gods of silver, or gods of gold for yourselves.


The rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, didn't repent of the works of their hands, that they wouldn't worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk.


Then the king promoted Shadrakh, Meshakh, and `Aved-Nego in the province of Bavel.


Now it happened in the days of Achashverosh (this is Achashverosh who reigned from Hoddu even to Kush, over one hundred twenty-seven provinces),


Nevukhadnetzar 1 answered them, Is it on purpose, Shadrakh, Meshakh, and `Aved-Nego, that you don't serve my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?


They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.


For she did not know that I gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil, and multiplied to her silver and gold, which they used for Ba`al.


Daniyel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrakh, Meshakh, and `Aved-Nego, over the affairs of the province of Bavel: but Daniyel was in the gate of the king.
