But the king spared Mefivoshet, the son of Yonatan the son of Sha'ul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Yonatan the son of Sha'ul.
David said to him, *Don't be afraid of him; for I will surely show you kindness for Yonatan your father's sake, and will restore you all the land of Sha'ul your father; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.*
But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gil`adite, and let them be of those who eat at your table; for so they came to me when I fled from Avshalom your brother.
Don't forsake your friend and your father's friend. Don't go to your brother's house in the day of your disaster: better is a neighbor who is near than a distant brother.
Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a talmid, most certainly I tell you he will in no way lose his reward.*
Yonatan said to David, Go in peace, because we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, the LORD shall be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed, forever. He arose and departed: and Yonatan went into the city.
