Now there was a certain man of Ramatayim-Tzofim, of the hill country of Efrayim, and his name was Elkana, the son of Yerocham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tochu, the son of Tzuf, an Efratite:
Yarov`am the son of Nevat, an Efratite of Tzeredata, a servant of Shlomo, whose mother's name was Tzeru`ah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.
The Gil`adi took the fords of the Yarden against the Efrayim. It was so, that when [any of] the fugitives of Efrayim said, Let me go over, the men of Gil`ad said to him, Are you an Efratite? If he said, No;
It happened in those days, when there was no king in Yisra'el, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the farther side of the hill country of Efrayim, who took to him a concubine out of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah.
She lived under the palm tree of Devorah between Ramah and Beit-El in the hill country of Efrayim: and the children of Yisra'el came up to her for judgment.
The name of the man was Elimelekh, and the name of his wife Na`omi 1, and the name of his two sons Machlon and Kilyon, Efratites of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah. They came into the country of Mo'av, and continued there.
They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkana knew Channah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
Now David was the son of that Efratite of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah, whose name was Yishai; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Sha'ul, stricken [in years] among men.
He passed through the hill country of Efrayim, and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they didn't find them: then they passed through the land of Sha`alim, and there they weren't there: and he passed through the land of the Binyamini, but they didn't find them.
When they had come to the land of Tzuf, Sha'ul said to his servant who was with him, Come, and let us return, lest my father leave off caring for the donkeys, and be anxious for us.
