King David said to Ornan, No; but I will most certainly buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is yours for the LORD, nor offer a burnt offering without cost.
He spoke to `Efron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, *But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there.*
that he may give me the cave of Makhpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me among you for a possession of a burying-place.*
The king said to Aravna, No; but I will most certainly buy it of you at a price. Neither will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
Ornan said to David, Take it to you, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: behold, I give [you] the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering; I give it all.
