Zechariah 8:12

Good News Translation

They will plant their crops in peace. Their vines will bear grapes, the earth will produce crops, and there will be plenty of rain. I will give all these blessings to the people of my nation who survive.

Isaac sowed crops in that land, and that year he harvested a hundred times as much as he had sown, because the Lord blessed him.

May God give you dew from heaven and make your fields fertile! May he give you plenty of grain and wine!

A prophet named Elijah, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to King Ahab, “In the name of the Lord, the living God of Israel, whom I serve, I tell you that there will be no dew or rain for the next two or three years until I say so.”

May the land enjoy prosperity; may it experience righteousness.

The Lord will make us prosperous, and our land will produce rich harvests.

I will increase the yield of your fruit trees and your fields, so that there will be no more famines to disgrace you among the nations.

I am on your side, and I will make sure that your land is plowed again and crops are planted on it.

And so these people will disappear like morning mist, like the dew that vanishes early in the day. They will be like chaff which the wind blows from the threshing place, like smoke from a chimney.

I will be to the people of Israel like rain in a dry land. They will blossom like flowers; they will be firmly rooted like the trees of Lebanon.

He answered them: “Now I am going to give you grain and wine and olive oil, and you will be satisfied. Other nations will no longer despise you.

Animals, don't be afraid. The pastures are green; the trees bear their fruit, and there are plenty of figs and grapes.

“If you live according to my laws and obey my commands,

The people of Israel who survive will do no wrong to anyone, tell no lies, nor try to deceive. They will be prosperous and secure, afraid of no one.”

That is why there is no rain and nothing can grow.

Today is the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, the day that the foundation of the Temple has been completed. See what is going to happen from now on.

Although there is no grain left, and the grapevines, fig trees, pomegranates, and olive trees have not yet produced, yet from now on I will bless you.”

“This may seem impossible to those of the nation who are now left, but it's not impossible for me.

So Jacob's descendants live in peace, secure in a land full of grain and wine, where dew from the sky waters the ground.
