If he was put right with God by the things he did, he would have something to boast about—but not in God's sight.

Then the king sent for Abram and asked him, “What have you done to me? Why didn't you tell me that she was your wife?

The king gave orders to his men, so they took Abram and put him out of the country, together with his wife and everything he owned.

He told me, “Go in and look at the evil, disgusting things they are doing there.”

In union with Christ Jesus, then, I can be proud of my service for God.

This means that no one can boast in God's presence.

So then, as the scripture says, “Whoever wants to boast must boast of what the Lord has done.”

Who made you superior to others? Didn't God give you everything you have? Well, then, how can you boast, as if what you have were not a gift?

I have no right to boast just because I preach the gospel. After all, I am under orders to do so. And how terrible it would be for me if I did not preach the gospel!

I will go on doing what I am doing now, in order to keep those other “apostles” from having any reason for boasting and saying that they work in the same way that we do.

If I must boast, I will boast about things that show how weak I am.

We are not trying again to recommend ourselves to you; rather, we are trying to give you a good reason to be proud of us, so that you will be able to answer those who boast about people's appearance and not about their character.

But the scripture says that the whole world is under the power of sin; and so the gift which is promised on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ is given to those who believe.

and be completely united with him. I no longer have a righteousness of my own, the kind that is gained by obeying the Law. I now have the righteousness that is given through faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is based on faith.
