then listen to their prayers. In your home in heaven hear them and be merciful to them and forgive all the sins of your people.

When God said that he would destroy his people, his chosen servant, Moses, stood up against God and kept his anger from destroying them.

But God was merciful to his people. He forgave their sin and did not destroy them. Many times he held back his anger and restrained his fury.

Aaron answered, “Don't be angry with me; you know how determined these people are to do evil.

A day is coming when people will sing, “I praise you, Lord! You were angry with me, but now you comfort me and are angry no longer.

“Comfort my people,” says our God. “Comfort them!

Encourage the people of Jerusalem. Tell them they have suffered long enough and their sins are now forgiven. I have punished them in full for all their sins.”

He touched my lips with the burning coal and said, “This has touched your lips, and now your guilt is gone, and your sins are forgiven.”

When that time comes, no sin will be found in Israel and no wickedness in Judah, because I will forgive those people whose lives I have spared. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

I will forgive all the wrongs you have done, but you will remember them and be too ashamed to open your mouth.” The Sovereign Lord has spoken.

Perhaps God will change his mind; perhaps he will stop being angry, and we will not die!”

You will be merciful to us once again. You will trample our sins underfoot and send them to the bottom of the sea!

The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “There is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Do not keep for yourselves anything that was condemned to destruction, and then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and show you mercy. He will be merciful to you and make you a numerous people, as he promised your ancestors,

“Nations, you must praise the Lord's people— he punishes all who kill them. He takes revenge on his enemies and forgives the sins of his people.”
