May the punishment for it fall on Joab and all his family! In every generation may there be some man in his family who has gonorrhea or a dreaded skin disease or is fit only to do a woman's work or is killed in battle or doesn't have enough to eat!”

The Lord will punish Joab for those murders, which he committed without my father David's knowledge. Joab killed two innocent men who were better men than he: Abner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa, commander of the army of Judah.

But Esther went to the king, and the king issued written orders with the result that Haman suffered the fate he had planned for the Jews—he and his sons were hanged from the gallows.

All he does is full of honor and majesty; his righteousness is eternal.

May red-hot coals fall on them; may they be thrown into a pit and never get out.

They will tell about all your goodness and sing about your kindness.

Then I will proclaim your righteousness, and I will praise you all day long.

Spare my life, O God, and save me, and I will gladly proclaim your righteousness.

I will sing with joy because of you. I will sing praise to you, Almighty God.

How good it is to give thanks to you, O Lord, to sing in your honor, O Most High God,

because you, Lord, are supreme forever.

The Lord announced his victory; he made his saving power known to the nations.

This is the decision of the alert and watchful angels. So then, let all people everywhere know that the Supreme God has power over human kingdoms and that he can give them to anyone he chooses—even to those who are least important.’

You will be driven away from human society and will live with wild animals. For seven years you will eat grass like an ox and sleep in the open air, where the dew will fall on you. Then you will admit that the Supreme God controls all human kingdoms and that he can give them to anyone he chooses.

“When the seven years had passed,” said the king, “I looked up at the sky, and my sanity returned. I praised the Supreme God and gave honor and glory to the one who lives forever. “He will rule forever, and his kingdom will last for all time.

“But the Most High God does not live in houses built by human hands; as the prophet says,

This happened so that Abimelech and the men of Shechem, who encouraged him to murder Gideon's seventy sons, would pay for their crime.

God also made the men of Shechem suffer for their wickedness, just as Jotham, Gideon's son, said they would when he cursed them.
