The Lord will punish Joab for those murders, which he committed without my father David's knowledge. Joab killed two innocent men who were better men than he: Abner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa, commander of the army of Judah.

See where evil people have fallen. There they lie, unable to rise.

They make evil plans as they lie in bed; nothing they do is good, and they never reject anything evil.

I have complete confidence, O God; I will sing and praise you!

The Lord has revealed himself by his righteous judgments, and the wicked are trapped by their own deeds.

Robbery always claims the life of the robber—this is what happens to anyone who lives by violence.

People who set traps for others get caught themselves. People who start landslides get crushed.

If you dig a pit, you fall in it; if you break through a wall, a snake bites you.

When David heard that Saul was planning to attack him, he said to the priest Abiathar, “Bring the ephod here.”

By the living Lord,” David continued, “I know that the Lord himself will kill Saul, either when his time comes to die a natural death or when he dies in battle.

He will give you and Israel over to the Philistines. Tomorrow you and your sons will join me, and the Lord will also give the army of Israel over to the Philistines.”
