Good News Translation

Zion, the mountain of God, is high and beautiful; the city of the great king brings joy to all the world.

Praise the Lord in Zion, in Jerusalem, his home. Praise the Lord!

God shines from Zion, the city perfect in its beauty.

He has his home in Jerusalem; he lives on Mount Zion.

Listen, city of God, to the wonderful things he says about you:

Praise the Lord our God, and worship at his sacred hill! The Lord our God is holy.

You were determined to climb up to heaven and to place your throne above the highest stars. You thought you would sit like a king on that mountain in the north where the gods assemble.

In days to come the mountain where the Temple stands will be the highest one of all, towering above all the hills. Many nations will come streaming to it,

The descendants of those who oppressed you will come And bow low to show their respect. All who once despised you will worship at your feet. They will call you ‘The City of the Lord,’ ‘Zion, the City of Israel's Holy God.’

Rejoice with Jerusalem; be glad for her, all you that love this city! Rejoice with her now, all you that have mourned for her!

The Lord says, “Israel, I wanted to accept you as my child and give you a delightful land, the most beautiful land in all the world. I wanted you to call me father and never again turn away from me.

People passing by the city look at you in scorn. They shake their heads and laugh at Jerusalem's ruins: “Is this that lovely city? Is this the pride of the world?”

It was then that I promised to take them out of Egypt and lead them to a land I had chosen for them, a rich and fertile land, the finest land of all.

The Syrian invader will do with them as he pleases, without opposition. He will stand in the Promised Land and have it completely in his power.

He will even set up his huge royal tents between the sea and the mountain on which the Temple stands. But he will die, with no one there to help him.”

Out of one of these four horns grew a little horn, whose power extended toward the south and the east and toward the Promised Land.

A curse on the cheater who sacrifices a worthless animal to me, when he has in his flock a good animal that he promised to give me! For I am a great king, and people of all nations fear me.”

Then the people of all nations will call you happy, because your land will be a good place to live.

nor by earth, for it is the resting place for his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

Instead, you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, with its thousands of angels.
