My strength is gone, gone like water spilled on the ground. All my bones are out of joint; my heart is like melted wax.

People sneer at me; they crowd around me and slap my face.

Almighty God has destroyed my courage. It is God, not the dark, that makes me afraid— even though the darkness has made me blind.

Now I am about to die; there is no relief for my suffering.

All my bones can be seen. My enemies look at me and stare.

I am exhausted by sorrow, and weeping has shortened my life. I am weak from all my troubles; even my bones are wasting away.

They accuse me, shouting, “We saw what you did!”

As smoke is blown away, so he drives them off; as wax melts in front of the fire, so do the wicked perish in God's presence.

“We are insulted and mocked by all our enemies.

He turned pale and was so frightened that his knees began to shake.
