Why should the nations ask us, “Where is your God?”

I am crushed by their insults, as they keep on asking me, “Where is your God?”

Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my savior and my God.

Day and night I cry, and tears are my only food; all the time my enemies ask me, “Where is your God?”

My heart breaks when I remember the past, when I went with the crowds to the house of God and led them as they walked along, a happy crowd, singing and shouting praise to God.

Why should the nations ask us, “Where is your God?” Let us see you punish the nations for shedding the blood of your servants.

Why should the Egyptians be able to say that you led your people out of Egypt, planning to kill them in the mountains and destroy them completely? Stop being angry; change your mind and do not bring this disaster on your people.

The priests, serving the Lord between the altar and the entrance of the Temple, must weep and pray: “Have pity on your people, Lord. Do not let other nations despise us and mock us by saying, ‘Where is your God?’”
