Psalm 110:4

Good News Translation

The Lord made a solemn promise and will not take it back: “You will be a priest forever in the priestly order of Melchizedek.”

And Melchizedek, who was king of Salem and also a priest of the Most High God, brought bread and wine to Abram,

You made a solemn promise to David— a promise you will not take back: “I will make one of your sons king, and he will rule after you.

He is the one who will build it and receive the honor due a king, and he will rule his people. A priest will stand by his throne, and they will work together in peace and harmony.’

God is not like people, who lie; He is not a human who changes his mind. Whatever he promises, he does; He speaks, and it is done.

He also said in another place, “You will be a priest forever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek.”

On our behalf Jesus has gone in there before us and has become a high priest forever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek.

It was on the basis of the levitical priesthood that the Law was given to the people of Israel. Now, if the work of the levitical priests had been perfect, there would have been no need for a different kind of priest to appear, one who is in the priestly order of Melchizedek, not of Aaron.

For the scripture says, “You will be a priest forever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek.”

But Jesus became a priest by means of a vow when God said to him, “The Lord has made a solemn promise and will not take it back: ‘You will be a priest forever.’”

The Law of Moses appoints men who are imperfect to be high priests; but God's promise made with the vow, which came later than the Law, appoints the Son, who has been made perfect forever.

and made us a kingdom of priests to serve his God and Father. To Jesus Christ be the glory and power forever and ever! Amen.
