Psalm 101:5

Good News Translation

I will get rid of anyone who whispers evil things about someone else; I will not tolerate anyone who is proud and arrogant.

Even though you are so high above, you care for the lowly, and the proud cannot hide from you.

and who do not slander others. They do no wrong to their friends nor spread rumors about their neighbors.

You save those who are humble, but you humble those who are proud.

You are ready to accuse your own relatives and to find fault with them.

“Do not accuse anyone falsely.

“Do not spread false rumors, and do not help a guilty person by giving false testimony.

Anyone who hides hatred is a liar. Anyone who spreads gossip is a fool.

A gossip can never keep a secret. Stay away from people who talk too much.

Wicked people are controlled by their conceit and arrogance, and this is sinful.

Gossip brings anger just as surely as the north wind brings rain.

There are people who think they are so good—oh, how good they think they are!

A day is coming when human pride will be ended and human arrogance destroyed. Then the Lord alone will be exalted.

Some of your people tell lies about others in order to have them put to death. Some of them eat sacrifices offered to idols. Some are always satisfying their lusts.

“And now, I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, honor, and glorify the King of Heaven. Everything he does is right and just, and he can humble anyone who acts proudly.”

Do not spread lies about anyone, and when someone is on trial for his life, speak out if your testimony can help him. I am the Lord.

I tell you,” said Jesus, “the tax collector, and not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.”

What I meant was that you should not associate with a person who calls himself a believer but is immoral or greedy or worships idols or is a slanderer or a drunkard or a thief. Don't even sit down to eat with such a person.

Their wives also must be of good character and must not gossip; they must be sober and honest in everything.

In the same way instruct the older women to behave as women should who live a holy life. They must not be slanderers or slaves to wine. They must teach what is good,

Stop your loud boasting; silence your proud words. For the Lord is a God who knows, and he judges all that people do.
