You have to whip a horse, you have to bridle a donkey, and you have to beat a fool.

Intelligent people talk sense, but stupid people need to be punished.

An intelligent person learns more from one rebuke than a fool learns from being beaten a hundred times.

Arrogance should be punished, so that people who don't know any better can learn a lesson. If you are wise, you will learn when you are corrected.

A conceited fool is sure to get a beating.

Even if you beat fools half to death, you still can't beat their foolishness out of them.

Which do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a whip, or in a spirit of love and gentleness?

I want to tell those of you who have sinned in the past, and all the others; I said it before during my second visit to you, but I will say it again now that I am away: the next time I come nobody will escape punishment.
