When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the Almighty God. Obey me and always do what is right.

But God will never abandon the faithful or ever give help to evil people.

Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me. Your shepherd's rod and staff protect me.

May my goodness and honesty preserve me, because I trust in you.

The Lord is our protector and glorious king, blessing us with kindness and honor. He does not refuse any good thing to those who do what is right.

Anyone who thinks and speaks evil can expect to find nothing good—only disaster.

He may disguise his hatred, but everyone will see the evil things he does.

The wicked run when no one is chasing them, but an honest person is as brave as a lion.

Be honest and you will be safe. If you are dishonest, you will suddenly fall.

You can go safely on your way and never even stumble.

“So do not be afraid of people. Whatever is now covered up will be uncovered, and every secret will be made known.

So you should not pass judgment on anyone before the right time comes. Final judgment must wait until the Lord comes; he will bring to light the dark secrets and expose the hidden purposes of people's minds. And then all will receive from God the praise they deserve.

In the same way good deeds are plainly seen, and even those that are not so plain cannot be hidden.
