Reverence for the Lord is an education in itself. You must be humble before you can ever receive honors.

As they looked on, a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white.

He went a little farther on, threw himself face downward on the ground, and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering from me! Yet not what I want, but what you want.”

Once more Jesus went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup of suffering cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.”

While he was praying, his face changed its appearance, and his clothes became dazzling white.

No one takes my life away from me. I give it up of my own free will. I have the right to give it up, and I have the right to take it back. This is what my Father has commanded me to do.”

but the world must know that I love the Father; that is why I do everything as he commands me. “Come, let us go from this place.

If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love.

“My food,” Jesus said to them, “is to obey the will of the one who sent me and to finish the work he gave me to do.

He was humiliated, and justice was denied him. No one will be able to tell about his descendants, because his life on earth has come to an end.”

And just as all people were made sinners as the result of the disobedience of one man, in the same way they will all be put right with God as the result of the obedience of the one man.

You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; rich as he was, he made himself poor for your sake, in order to make you rich by means of his poverty.

But by becoming a curse for us Christ has redeemed us from the curse that the Law brings; for the scripture says, “Anyone who is hanged on a tree is under God's curse.”

it is not to remain there overnight. It must be buried the same day, because a dead body hanging on a post brings God's curse on the land. Bury the body, so that you will not defile the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

He gave himself for us, to rescue us from all wickedness and to make us a pure people who belong to him alone and are eager to do good.

Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God's throne.

For in your struggle against sin you have not yet had to resist to the point of being killed.

Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.

For Christ died for sins once and for all, a good man on behalf of sinners, in order to lead you to God. He was put to death physically, but made alive spiritually,
