There is someone in heaven to stand up for me and take my side.

I groan with sadness for Moab, with grief for Kir Heres.

We are glad when we are weak but you are strong. And so we also pray that you will become perfect.

It is not we who have closed our hearts to you; it is you who have closed your hearts to us.

And so his love for you grows stronger, as he remembers how all of you were ready to obey his instructions, how you welcomed him with fear and trembling.

What I write is true. God knows that I am not lying!

It is through faith that all of you are God's children in union with Christ Jesus.

My dear children! Once again, just like a mother in childbirth, I feel the same kind of pain for you until Christ's nature is formed in you.

Your life in Christ makes you strong, and his love comforts you. You have fellowship with the Spirit, and you have kindness and compassion for one another.

He is anxious to see you all and is very upset because you had heard that he was sick.

So then, my friends, how dear you are to me and how I miss you! How happy you make me, and how proud I am of you!—this, dear friends, is how you should stand firm in your life in the Lord.

Let me tell you how hard I have worked for you and for the people in Laodicea and for all others who do not know me personally.

You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

You know very well that we did not come to you with flattering talk, nor did we use words to cover up greed—God is our witness!

Because of our love for you we were ready to share with you not only the Good News from God but even our own lives. You were so dear to us!

I remember your tears, and I want to see you very much, so that I may be filled with joy.

I am sending him back to you now, and with him goes my heart.

So, my brother, please do me this favor for the Lord's sake; as a brother in Christ, cheer me up!

If we are rich and see others in need, yet close our hearts against them, how can we claim that we love God?
