The Lord told Moses
to say to the people of Israel: “When you cross the Jordan River and enter the land of Canaan,
The number of Levite cities in each tribe is to be determined according to the size of its territory.”
“After the Lord your God has destroyed the people whose land he is giving you and after you have taken their cities and houses and settled there,
If you accidentally kill someone who is not your enemy, you may escape to any of these cities and be safe.
