Good News Translation

“Those accused of murder may be found guilty and put to death only on the evidence of two or more witnesses; the evidence of one witness is not sufficient to support an accusation of murder.

“Whoever hits someone and kills him is to be put to death.

“Any who commit murder shall be put to death,

“If, however, any of you use a weapon of iron or stone or wood to kill someone, you are guilty of murder and are to be put to death.

Murderers must be put to death. They cannot escape this penalty by the payment of money.

But if he will not listen to you, take one or two other persons with you, so that ‘every accusation may be upheld by the testimony of two or more witnesses,’ as the scripture says.

“According to our Law we cannot condemn people before hearing them and finding out what they have done.”

This is now the third time that I am coming to visit you. “Any accusation must be upheld by the evidence of two or more witnesses”—as the scripture says.

“One witness is not enough to convict someone of a crime; at least two witnesses are necessary to prove that someone is guilty.

“‘God's curse on anyone who secretly commits murder.’ “And all the people will answer, ‘Amen!’

Do not listen to an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or more witnesses.

Anyone who disobeys the Law of Moses is put to death without any mercy when judged guilty from the evidence of two or more witnesses.

I will send my two witnesses dressed in sackcloth, and they will proclaim God's message during those 1, 260 days.”
