The wicked are proud and persecute the poor; catch them in the traps they have made.

The Lord has revealed himself by his righteous judgments, and the wicked are trapped by their own deeds.

If you are good, you are guided by honesty. People who can't be trusted are destroyed by their own dishonesty.

Unreliable messengers cause trouble, but those who can be trusted bring peace.

I saw the people of Cushan afraid and the people of Midian tremble.

Balaam said to Balak, “Now I am going back to my own people, but before I go, I am warning you what the people of Israel will do to your people in the future.”

Then Balaam got ready and went back home, and Balak went on his way.

The woman's name was Cozbi. Zur, her father, was chief of a group of Midianite clans.

because of the evil they did to you when they deceived you at Peor, and because of Cozbi, who was killed at the time of the epidemic at Peor.”

Remember that it was the women who followed Balaam's instructions and at Peor led the people to be unfaithful to the Lord. That was what brought the epidemic on the Lord's people.

The beast was taken prisoner, together with the false prophet who had performed miracles in his presence. (It was by those miracles that he had deceived those who had the mark of the beast and those who had worshiped the image of the beast.) The beast and the false prophet were both thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

But there are a few things I have against you: there are some among you who follow the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak how to lead the people of Israel into sin by persuading them to eat food that had been offered to idols and to practice sexual immorality.
