Numbers 14:11

Good News Translation

The Lord said to Moses, “How much longer will these people reject me? How much longer will they refuse to trust in me, even though I have performed so many miracles among them?

Then they rejected the pleasant land, because they did not believe God's promise.

because they had no faith in him and did not believe that he would save them.

In spite of all this the people kept sinning; in spite of his miracles they did not trust him.

“Don't be stubborn, as your ancestors were at Meribah, as they were that day in the desert at Massah.

So Moses and Aaron went to the king and said to him, “The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says, ‘How much longer will you refuse to submit to me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “How much longer will you people refuse to obey my commands?

Pay attention to him and obey him. Do not rebel against him, for I have sent him, and he will not pardon such rebellion.

I know how stubborn these people are.

“Foolish people! How long do you want to be foolish? How long will you enjoy making fun of knowledge? Will you never learn?

These evil people have refused to obey me. They have been as stubborn and wicked as ever, and have worshiped and served other gods. So then, they will become like these shorts that are no longer any good.

Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart, so that you may be saved. How long will you go on thinking sinful thoughts?

But even in the desert they defied me. They broke my laws and rejected my commands, which bring life to anyone who obeys them. They completely profaned the Sabbath. I was ready to let them feel the force of my anger there in the desert and to destroy them.

I hate the gold bull worshiped by the people of the city of Samaria. I am furious with them. How long will it be before they give up their idolatry?

The Lord Almighty says, “When your ancestors made me angry, I planned disaster for them and did not change my mind, but carried out my plans.

They will never enter the land which I promised to their ancestors. None of those who have rejected me will ever enter it.

“How much longer are these wicked people going to complain against me? I have heard enough of these complaints!

The Lord became angry that day and made a promise:

Jesus answered, “How unbelieving and wrong you people are! How long must I stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy here to me!”

Jesus said to them, “How unbelieving you people are! How long must I stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring the boy to me!”

But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, you should at least believe my deeds, in order that you may know once and for all that the Father is in me and that I am in the Father.”

Even though he had performed all these miracles in their presence, they did not believe in him,

They would not have been guilty of sin if I had not done among them the things that no one else ever did; as it is, they have seen what I did, and they hate both me and my Father.

But in spite of what I said, you still would not trust the Lord,

Who were the people who heard God's voice and rebelled against him? All those who were led out of Egypt by Moses.

When God made his solemn promise, “They will never enter the land where I would have given them rest”—of whom was he speaking? Of those who rebelled.

do not be stubborn, as your ancestors were when they rebelled against God, as they were that day in the desert when they put him to the test.
