The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's home, and go to a land that I am going to show you.

I know that you left because you were so anxious to get back home, but why did you steal my household gods?”

Bride of the king, listen to what I say— forget your people and your relatives.

Then Moses said good-bye to Jethro, and Jethro went back home.

“Now, what do you think? There was once a man who had two sons. He went to the older one and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’

No longer, then, do we judge anyone by human standards. Even if at one time we judged Christ according to human standards, we no longer do so.

It was in faith that all these persons died. They did not receive the things God had promised, but from a long way off they saw them and welcomed them, and admitted openly that they were foreigners and refugees on earth.

It was faith that made Abraham obey when God called him to go out to a country which God had promised to give him. He left his own country without knowing where he was going.

The descendants of Moses' father-in-law, the Kenite, went on with the people of Judah from Jericho, the city of palm trees, into the barren country south of Arad in Judah. There they settled among the Amalekites.
