Jesus answered, “Do you expect the guests at a wedding party to be sad as long as the bridegroom is with them? Of course not! But the day will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

The Sovereign Lord Almighty was calling you then to weep and mourn, to shave your heads and wear sackcloth.

Then the followers of John the Baptist came to Jesus, asking, “Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast at all?”

“No one patches up an old coat with a piece of new cloth, for the new patch will shrink and make an even bigger hole in the coat.

Jesus answered, “Do you expect the guests at a wedding party to go without food? Of course not! As long as the bridegroom is with them, they will not do that.

But the day will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Then he said to the disciples, “The time will come when you will wish you could see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.

Jesus answered, “Do you think you can make the guests at a wedding party go without food as long as the bridegroom is with them? Of course not!

But the day will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

And now that I have told you, your hearts are full of sadness.

The bridegroom is the one to whom the bride belongs; but the bridegroom's friend, who stands by and listens, is glad when he hears the bridegroom's voice. This is how my own happiness is made complete.

In each church they appointed elders, and with prayers and fasting they commended them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.

Do not deny yourselves to each other, unless you first agree to do so for a while in order to spend your time in prayer; but then resume normal marital relations. In this way you will be kept from giving in to Satan's temptation because of your lack of self-control.

There has been work and toil; often I have gone without sleep; I have been hungry and thirsty; I have often been without enough food, shelter, or clothing.

Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Happy are those who have been invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And the angel added, “These are the true words of God.”

And I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared and ready, like a bride dressed to meet her husband.
