Good News Translation

While Pilate was sitting in the judgment hall, his wife sent him a message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, because in a dream last night I suffered much on account of him.”

But when Joseph heard that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as king of Judea, he was afraid to go there. He was given more instructions in a dream, so he went to the province of Galilee

He knew very well that the Jewish authorities had handed Jesus over to him because they were jealous.

When Pilate saw that it was no use to go on, but that a riot might break out, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am not responsible for the death of this man! This is your doing!”

“I have sinned by betraying an innocent man to death!” he said. “What do we care about that?” they answered. “That is your business!”

Ours, however, is only right, because we are getting what we deserve for what we did; but he has done no wrong.”

The army officer saw what had happened, and he praised God, saying, “Certainly he was a good man!”

When Pilate heard these words, he took Jesus outside and sat down on the judge's seat in the place called “The Stone Pavement.” (In Hebrew the name is “Gabbatha.”)

On a chosen day Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to the people.

When Gallio was made the Roman governor of Achaia, Jews there got together, seized Paul, and took him into court.

And he drove them out of the court.

They all grabbed Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the court. But that did not bother Gallio a bit.

Paul said, “I am standing before the Emperor's own judgment court, where I should be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you yourself well know.

When they came here, then, I lost no time, but on the very next day I sat in the judgment court and ordered the man to be brought in.

Festus spent another eight or ten days with them and then went to Caesarea. On the next day he sat down in the judgment court and ordered Paul to be brought in.

He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come from his lips.

I am writing this to you, my children, so that you will not sin; but if anyone does sin, we have someone who pleads with the Father on our behalf—Jesus Christ, the righteous one.
