Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather be afraid of God, who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

Jesus said to Peter, “I tell you that before the rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me.”

After a little while the men standing there came to Peter. “Of course you are one of them,” they said. “After all, the way you speak gives you away!”

and Peter remembered what Jesus had told him: “Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you do not know me.” He went out and wept bitterly.

But he denied it. “I don't know … I don't understand what you are talking about,” he answered, and went out into the passageway. Just then a rooster crowed.

But Peter answered, “Man, I don't know what you are talking about!” At once, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

Again Peter said “No”—and at once a rooster crowed.

for my people, my own flesh and blood! For their sake I could wish that I myself were under God's curse and separated from Christ.
