and one of them, a teacher of the Law, tried to trap him with a question.
Jesus, however, was aware of their evil plan, and so he said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me?
“Teacher,” he asked, “which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Some Pharisees came to him and tried to trap him. “Tell us,” they asked, “does our Law allow a man to divorce his wife?”
“How terrible for you teachers of the Law! You have kept the key that opens the door to the house of knowledge; you yourselves will not go in, and you stop those who are trying to go in!”
and Jesus spoke up and asked the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees, “Does our Law allow healing on the Sabbath or not?”
But the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law rejected God's purpose for themselves and refused to be baptized by John.
They said this to trap Jesus, so that they could accuse him. But he bent over and wrote on the ground with his finger.
Do your best to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos to get started on their travels, and see to it that they have everything they need.
