Jesus answered, “Moses gave you permission to divorce your wives because you are so hard to teach. But it was not like that at the time of creation.

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united with his wife, and they become one.

He and his wife, and his sons and their wives, went into the boat to escape the flood.

“Don't be stubborn, as your ancestors were at Meribah, as they were that day in the desert at Massah.

The Lord said to his people, “Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths and where the best road is. Walk in it, and you will live in peace.” But they said, “No, we will not!”

and made their hearts as hard as rock. Because they would not listen to the teaching which I sent through the prophets who lived long ago, I became very angry.

The Pharisees asked him, “Why, then, did Moses give the law for a man to hand his wife a divorce notice and send her away?”

I tell you, then, that any man who divorces his wife for any cause other than her unfaithfulness, commits adultery if he marries some other woman.”

But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so for now. For in this way we shall do all that God requires.” So John agreed.

So the demons begged Jesus, “If you are going to drive us out, send us into that herd of pigs.”

Jesus said to them, “Moses wrote this law for you because you are so hard to teach.

Last of all, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples as they were eating. He scolded them, because they did not have faith and because they were too stubborn to believe those who had seen him alive.

I tell you this not as an order, but simply as a permission.

David had married Ahinoam from Jezreel, and now Abigail also became his wife.
