Matthew 19:14

Good News Translation

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

and when Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God had commanded.

At that time Jesus said, “Father, Lord of heaven and earth! I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned.

and said, “I assure you that unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.

He placed his hands on them and then went away.

“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

When Jesus noticed this, he was angry and said to his disciples, “Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

I assure you that whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”

Do not be like children in your thinking, my friends; be children so far as evil is concerned, but be grown up in your thinking.

But he did tell me that I would become pregnant and have a son. He told me not to drink any wine or beer, or eat any forbidden food, because the boy is to be dedicated to God as a nazirite as long as he lives.”

Hannah made a solemn promise: “Lord Almighty, look at me, your servant! See my trouble and remember me! Don't forget me! If you give me a son, I promise that I will dedicate him to you for his whole life and that he will never have his hair cut.”

But this time Hannah did not go. She told her husband, “As soon as the child is weaned, I will take him to the house of the Lord, where he will stay all his life.”

After she had weaned him, she took him to Shiloh, taking along a three-year-old bull, a bushel of flour, and a leather bag full of wine. She took Samuel, young as he was, to the house of the Lord at Shiloh.

In the meantime the boy Samuel continued to serve the Lord, wearing a sacred linen apron.
