From that time on Jesus began to say plainly to his disciples, “I must go to Jerusalem and suffer much from the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. I will be put to death, but three days later I will be raised to life.”

In the same way that Jonah spent three days and nights in the big fish, so will the Son of Man spend three days and nights in the depths of the earth.

Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “God forbid it, Lord!” he said. “That must never happen to you!”

I assure you that there are some here who will not die until they have seen the Son of Man come as King.”

But I tell you that Elijah has already come and people did not recognize him, but treated him just as they pleased. In the same way they will also mistreat the Son of Man.”

But he said nothing in response to the accusations of the chief priests and elders.

and said, “Sir, we remember that while that liar was still alive he said, ‘I will be raised to life three days later.’

He is not here; he has been raised, just as he said. Come here and see the place where he was lying.

Then Jesus began to teach his disciples: “The Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. He will be put to death, but three days later he will rise to life.”

His answer was, “Elijah is indeed coming first in order to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man will suffer much and be rejected?

But first he must suffer much and be rejected by the people of this day.

and said to them, “This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later,

who appeared in heavenly glory and talked with Jesus about the way in which he would soon fulfill God's purpose by dying in Jerusalem.
