Matthew 12:2

Good News Translation

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to Jesus, “Look, it is against our Law for your disciples to do this on the Sabbath!”

“Work six days a week, but do no work on the seventh day, so that your slaves and the foreigners who work for you and even your animals can rest.

You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is to be sacred, a solemn day of rest dedicated to me, the Lord. Anyone who does any work on that day is to be put to death.

The Lord says, “If you treat the Sabbath as sacred and do not pursue your own interests on that day; if you value my holy day and honor it by not traveling, working, or talking idly on that day,

where there was a man who had a paralyzed hand. Some people were there who wanted to accuse Jesus of doing wrong, so they asked him, “Is it against our Law to heal on the Sabbath?”

Jesus answered, “Have you never read what David did that time when he and his men were hungry?

So the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, it is against our Law for your disciples to do that on the Sabbath!”

and Jesus spoke up and asked the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees, “Does our Law allow healing on the Sabbath or not?”

Then they went back home and prepared the spices and perfumes for the body. On the Sabbath they rested, as the Law commanded.

Some Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what our Law says you cannot do on the Sabbath?”
