Good News Translation

He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, gave thanks to God, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the crowd; and the disciples did so.

While they were eating, Jesus took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. “Take and eat it,” he said; “this is my body.”

“And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand people,” asked Jesus, “how many baskets full of leftover pieces did you take up?” “Seven,” they answered.

“How much bread do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven loaves,” they answered.

They also had a few small fish. Jesus gave thanks for these and told the disciples to distribute them too.

How happy are those servants whose master finds them awake and ready when he returns! I tell you, he will take off his coat, have them sit down, and will wait on them.

He sat down to eat with them, took the bread, and said the blessing; then he broke the bread and gave it to them.

Jesus' mother then told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Other boats, which were from Tiberias, came to shore near the place where the crowd had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

Those who think highly of a certain day do so in honor of the Lord; those who will eat anything do so in honor of the Lord, because they give thanks to God for the food. Those who refuse to eat certain things do so in honor of the Lord, and they give thanks to God.

Everything you do or say, then, should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks through him to God the Father.
